This series consists of a subject file of prints relating to activities of Adm. Robert E. Peary's many expeditions to the North Pole, Greenland, and Labrador (this collection was presumably assembled by his daughter Marie Peary Kuhne). Included are views of Peary's 1886 expedition to Greenland (folder 2), the meteorite "Ahmigito" which he and his crew discovered in 1897 (folder 12), his vessel the S.S. Roosevelt (folders 1 and 24), portraits of Peary, his wife Josephine and daughter Marie (folders 18 to 20), portraits of Peary's associate Matthew Henson (folder 29), and views of ice conditions in the polar region (folder 11). Other photographs of interest in this series include views of the S.S. Roosevelt in 1940, rotting away in the Panama Canal Zone (folder 24), views of cairns and grave sites in the polar region (folder 4), Eskimos (Inuit) and sled dogs (folders 6 to 8), views of the American flag planted at the North Pole (folder 17), and the Peary Memorial at Cape York, Greenland (folder 21). Many of the photographs are captioned.

The S. S. Roosevelt was built at the McKay and Dix Boatyard in Bucksport, Maine; her keel was laid on Oct. 15, 1904 and she was launched on Mar. 23, 1905. The S.S.
